Roll up the total story points of issues to your Epic

Step 1

Prepare to configure the Calculated Fields post-function

Option A

When creating a global Calculated Field, a custom field is automatically created under Jira custom fields.

If you want to utilize this already existing custom field to configure a Calculated Field post-function, you can delete the global calculated field without trashing the custom field by not checking the checkbox as shown.

Then, select this custom field as your result field in the configuration of the Calculated Field post-function following Step 2.

Option B

Otherwise, create a new Jira custom (number) field and give it a name. Assign your field to the project screens you want it to appear. This will be your result field for the calculation. Then, follow the instructions in Step 2  for the Calculated Field post-function.

Step 2 

Configure the Calculated Fields post-function

Go to your project's settings and select the "Workflows" tab from the left-side navigation.

Click on the edit button on the right, and select the transition you want your calculation to perform. For example, if you select the Start Progress transition, your field will be calculated once your issue is in the In Progress status.

Switch to the post-functions tab and click the button "Add post-function".

Select the Calculated Field post-function from the list of post-functions and click "Add"

Configure your calculation to perform within the same issue and input the formula using the functions and fields drop-downs to calculate the total Story Points of the issues under your Epic.

Add your post-function and publish your workflow to save your changes.

Go to your Epic, input Story Points to the issues under your Epic, transition your Epic to In Progress, and your field is calculated.

The calculation will be performed every time your Epic transitions to the In Progress status.

Roll up the total story points of issues to your Epic

Step 1

Go to Jira Settings → Apps → Power Custom Fields and click Configuration.

On this page, enable the calculation of Sum Of Story Points custom field from the list.

Step 2

Now you can control on which screens the custom field will appear. Follow native Jira's steps to select which screens your custom field should be associated with: 

1. Select  > Issues.

2. Under FIELDS, click Custom fields.

Step 3

Find the Sum Of Story Points custom field and click  > Associate to Screens. Alternatively, you can click the field's contexts link and then click Screens > Associate this field to screens.

Step 4

Check the screens on which you want to display the custom field.

Go to your Epic, input Story Points to the issues under your Epic and the Sum Of Story Points custom field will be calculated automatically.

Calculate the final price of a product after tax

This use case requires you to have created 2 custom fields (Starting Price, VAT(%)) in advance in order to configure the calculations.

Step 1

Go to My Area → My Calculated Fields from the top navigation menu and click on ‘Create New Field' button to open the create calculated field page. 

Step 2

Start by adding the ADD() function to the drag and drop area. Then, drag and drop your custom field for Starting price in the value1 area.

In the value2 area, drag and drop the MULTIPLY() function and fill out the value area with your Starting price. Drag and drop the DIVIDE() function as your multiplier1 and then fill out the value area with your VAT (%) custom field and the divisor area with a constant value 100.

Add a name and description to your calculated field and validate your calculation by clicking on the 'Validate' button. Then, save your field.

Step 3

Navigate to the top and click to create a 'New report'. Add a name to your report on the top right corner.

Drag and drop your calculated field to the Fields area together with any other fields you would like to have in your report.

For example, you can also add the Project name field and filter it only for your desired projects. 

Finally, click 'Run' to see your report.
