Description
The 'JQL Query' compares the number of issues returned from the JQL quer=
y against predefined conditions such as:
- Must find at least one issue
- Must not find any issue
- Compare with a particular number
Configuration
You must write the 'JQL Query' and choose one option for the numbe=
r of issues found. For example:

How to write JQL Query

Jira Que=
ry Language (JQL) allows you to do some advanced searching in Jira's=
search dialog. This is a very powerful feature provided by Atlassian in Ji=
ra. JSU extends JQL with additional placeholders, which will be replaced wi=
th the values of the current issue in transition.
For example, if you configure the following JQL query in a configuration=
screen of JSU:

This will search all sibling issues (same parent), which do not have=
the same component as the current issue (in this example Documentation).=

Any text in curly brackets, which follows the pattern {issu=
e.FIELD NAME} will be replaced with the value of that field on the=
current issue (issue in transition). See below for further details on what=
names you can use for the different field types.
Depending on your use case, you might not use any {issue.FIELD NAME} pla=
ceholder at all.
Logical operators, Functions, and operators are the same as the JQL in J=
IRA. It is important to use the correct JQL syntax.
The easiest way to write a JQL query for JSU is to prepare it first in J=
ira's standard search interface (use 'advanced search'!) with some sample v=
alue. Then copy it to JSU configuration and replace some of your sample val=
ues with {issue.FIELD NAME} as required.

ink careful about what might be the result of your query
JQL in JSU can be very powerful. However, you also must think very caref=
ully, about what values might be used as replacements for the {issue.F=
IELD NAME} placeholders. Or what happens, if an issue has no value in such =
a field. There could be quite some variety in the data of your issues.
&n=
bsp;If you are not careful, the result of such a JQL query unexpectedly mig=
ht contain thousands of issues. Or the JQL query might fail because the syn=
tax has become invalid after the placeholders had been replaced.
Maximum Issues Allowed
You can set a limit for the maximum number of issues you expect from you=
r JQL query (see also the previous paragraph). If the result of the JQL que=
ry returns more issues, JSU will not process anything. JSU is pulling the e=
mergency brake before things get out of control.
Like this, you can prevent JSU from accidentally processing hundreds of =
issues.
By default, this limit is 50. You cannot set any higher limit than 1000.=
JQL Injection
&n=
bsp;Be aware of potential 'JQL injection':
JSU does not check any value that it retrieves from the current issue. A ma=
licious user might craft the value of a field (for example the value of a t=
ext field) so that after the replacement it adds additional criteria to you=
r JQL query.

We recommend that you don=E2=80=99t use any text fields as placeholders, or=
any other field, in which the user can freely change the text. Only use fi=
elds that can contain one/several clearly defined values.
Syntax for Field Names
Field names in your JQL should be the same as in the Advanced Search. We sugges=
t using the issue navigator's auto-complete feature to get the correct fiel=
d names. In Jira's top menu bar, go to Issues > Search for issues, and s=
witch to Advanced search.
System Fields
System Field names should be the same as those used in JQL. For example:=

Troubleshooting
It's a good idea to check your log files for any errors and warnings fro=
m JSU. Even more when you're using complex JQL queries in JSU.
While you configure a new workflow with JQL queries in JSU, you might ev=
en set the log level to DEBUG for the following package:

Supported Field Types
JSU supports many different field types such as system fields and custom=
fields. However you should be aware, that not all field types are supporte=
d, and not in all combinations. We aim to cover the most important field ty=
pes and are continuously adding and improving how different field types are=
supported. Some custom fields of other third-party apps might never be sup=
ported.
For that reason, you should always test anything you do with the JSU&nbs=
p;app with fields. You can try it with a free 30-day evaluation license.
